One of my friends posted this in a facebook note. I think its really good, and so true.
You start out life and they pump you full of fairytales and 'follow your dreams' crap >< and they want you to be creative and imaginative and be kind to every one and be these wonderful expressive people. They tell you that you'll grow up and be a princess (or prince) or watever and then you'll meet your soul mate and be happy and have everything the characters in your books have. The world is a perfect and safe place, and every one around you is kind and considerate and will protect you from that unknown evil. This is my favourite part because ignorance - while it lasts - is definately bliss.
Then you move out into the world where they are trying to 'prepare' you. In kindergarden they prepare you for grade one where they prepare you for grade two where they prepare you for grade three and all the way up until you are prepared for university or college and then your out in the 'real world' getting ready for retirement...when does it all just STOP! every one needs to STOP! chill out and just enjoy where you are and don't stress about the next step until you've experianced the one you're on now. What are they preparing you for? So that you can rush your life until you die. It's inevitable and it seems like thay just want you to get there as fast as possible.
The pink fluffy world you were promised as a kid is no longer there. Don't get me wrong there are planety pieces of fluff floating around but they don't just plop into your lap you have to go get them. Maybe that's what they are preparing you for.
Now while they are prearing you for the world ahead of you they decide to flip-flop on what you've been told your entire life...the world is not bright and cheery and if you don't play your cards right at each turn of the game then your life will be complete and utter shit. If you don't pass a test you'll fail the grade and then you won't have friends and then you won't graduate school and then you will die alone working at Mc Donalds. Now logically, this doesn't make any sense, failing your grade two math quiz isn't going to determine your future, and now that we're older we know that but when you're little you can't grasp that concept. And it's been ingrained into us so that even if our minds understand we still get that aweful panicked feeling in our chests. I had a seven year old girl come up to me this week almost in tears because she didn't have her math homework to hand in the next day and she was SCARED to go into school with out it. Now if that isn't unreasonable, what is? They pump you full of fear and put all of this pressure onto you until you think you are going to explode. Teachers wonder why kids don't focus on school in highschool...you know why? Because at this point just the thought of having to look at the future can send kids into hyperventalation and panic attacks. If we all just ignore it it will all go away right?
So how are we supposed to battle this world of fear and pressure that seems to attack us from the moment we wake up all the way through to our night mares? Honestly? I have NO idea...I'm as lost as any one else out there. We can all look around and say, 'oh yeah she has it all together' or 'he doesn't have a care int hte world'. But do you really believe it? Is every one so dofferent from one another?
As far as I can tell, the best way to deal with all the bull sh*t is to find some one who doesn't drive you absolutely nuts :P and hold onto that connection and try to find as many morea s possible because when we leave this world we can't take any of the money or clothes or cars that we've earned from being a doctor or lawyer or screwing our friends over to get slightly ahead. All we take with us is the love we've shown to others and the love we've reciaved in return and hopefully a few good memories as icing on the cake.
