I'll start off with one of the tutorials I have on my site and then we can add more if anyone is interested.
this is a very basic tutorial but it helps a zillion to make your graphics better. these are just to make your art more interesting
--method one: unsharp mask
1.go to Filters > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask. the settings depend on what you want. samples have settings I used avobe each
original
http://img218.echo.cx/img218/5102/orig9pv.jpg
unsharp Amount: 80, Radius: 6.4, Threshold: 12
http://img218.echo.cx/img218/3817/unsharp6xq.jpg
unsharp Amount: 116, Radius: 5.8, Threshold: 6
http://img218.echo.cx/img218/6163/unsharp27zz.jpg
--method two: smart blur
original
http://img218.echo.cx/img218/5102/orig9pv.jpg
1.make a copy of the original layer
2.go to Filters > Blur > Smart Blur. again settings depend on the image and how much or how little it needs. see the settings I used below
smart blur Radius: 10.1, Threshold: 28.2, Quality: Low
http://img48.echo.cx/img48/6752/blur16fr.jpg
3.with a small soft brush select the blur tool in the tools palette {it looks like a teardrop} and carefully blur all the jagged edges {like those around his eyes and chin}
http://img48.echo.cx/img48/2214/blur28pz.jpg
4.now make your original layer your top layer {just drag it to the top of the layers window}
5.change the layer mode from Normal to Soft Light
6.as always play with the layer opacity and fill until you get what you want. I changed the Fill to 76% in my sample

making a complete siggie
http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/665/priyanka50jp.jpg http://img321.imageshack.us/img321/3593/priyanka68rq.jpg
these are the original piccies to use. as you can se they are rather small so she wants to make them a bit bigger.
1.after we enlarge the two pics and merge them together this is what we get and as you can see the quality diminishes and you start getting the "box/mosaic" look but we will fix that now.
2.make a duplicate of your layer the go under Filter > Gausian Blur and set it to 1.0. now we managed to get a softer look and no boxes but it still not good enough to use
3.making sure you are still on the layer you just blured click on the "add vector mask" on the Layers palette. then pick a small soft round brush in black and set the opacity to 40%. then making sure the mask is selcted and not the actual pic bruh over the parts that need to be sharp such as her eyes, mouth, and jewelry but go easy...you don't want to end up with too much sharpness. when satisfied merge all your layers.
4.the pic is still a bit dark so just copy your layer then set your top layer to Screen opacity 50%
as you can see now the pic is ready to be blended..this is what I ended up with after playing with it for a while.
to get this simply make a copy of your layer then Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow with the settings 0, 7, 15. then set that layer's opacity to Soft Light
create a top blank layer and fill it with #F5E2B2 then set it to Color Burn opacity 57%. you end up with that old look. then use text and brushes to spice it up a bit.
I hope that helped a bit and it's good for making smaller pics larger without sacrificing too much quality, color, etc

1.cleaning up crappy images
since most images online are kinda crappy and dark and you get the idea lol
I'm doing this in a hurry so it ain't gonna be perfect :-D
we are working with the following pic so if anyone wants to follow this along (I'm using Photoshop but I believe PSP has similar buttons)
http://img244.echo.cx/img244/6020/266ra.jpg
make a copy of your layer and set the topmost to screen...this one I did at 28% cuz it's already quite light
on the top layer go to filters/blur/smart blur and on this one I used the settings radius 3.5 /thrshld 21.7
now pick the blur tool (the one that looks like a teardrop) and making sure it's a small SOFT round brush (about 21px and with strength 27%) blur the jagged edges that resulted when you smart blured the layer (on this one there's not that many except her nose/lips/hairline)
now change the layer mode from normal to soft light
merge the two layers (ctrl E)
now since this pic is too yellow copy your layer again and the go to Image/adjustments/color balance and use the following settings on this pic since she's not too yellow -14, +19, +34
next step is based on personal preference...if she is still too red or whatever a fast way to solve this is tp crate a copy of your layer again then go Image/adjustment/desaturate and set that layer to Soft Light at 55%
remember not all pics will have every single step or the same settings since some have crappier quality lol but you get the idea.
finished product vs the original
http://img280.echo.cx/img280/6523/prep266dz.jpg
http://img244.echo.cx/img244/6020/266ra.jpg
a full art tutorial - this is after you do the clean up tutorial
once again I'm zooming through this so it aint' gonna be perfect.
do the tutorial above but DON'T MERGE YOUR FINAL RESULT...you want to have two layers...the top one that's desaturated and set to soft light plus the bottom one that's all pretty and in colors
I work with brushes because I like creating more of my artwork and premade textures is pretty much cheating lol but since we are in a hurry here Imma do this using the following stock pics
http://img243.echo.cx/img243/8208/1814mart...andscape0bk.jpg (http://img243.echo.cx/img243/8208/1814martinilandscape0bk.jpg)
http://img247.echo.cx/img247/6278/naturalb...122318334sf.jpg (http://img247.echo.cx/img247/6278/naturalbeauty200505122318334sf.jpg)
http://img247.echo.cx/img247/2954/muzhagrass23gv.jpg
insert the martini stock pic in between the two layers of Rani the set it to screen. then filters/blurs/gausian at 2.4
then on the same pic filter/blur/motion blur set to angle 0 distance 21
now insert the flower pic on top of this layer and screen then filter/blur/gausian blur at 9.2
using the erase tool (set to SOFT brush size 100px) erase the part of this flower pics that's on Rani's face since it's making it too light
also erase the part that's on her face in the other stock pic we used
create a blank new layer on top of all layers then use the rectangular marquee tool to select a portion of the pic (since we don't want to use the entire pic for our fanart). I used from the top of her head to about under her chest for this then WITHOUT DESELECTING go to Edit/Stroke and use white at 1px
deselect (ctrl D)
now we have our frame but it's too plain so on the layer palette go down to ADD A LAYER STYLE (the button looks like an f) and select Blending Options
on the window that pops up double click on OUTER GLOW and change the settings to: blend mode NORMAL the ..then click on the color square and change the color to black...click ok until that window closes
create a new layer underneath this top frame layer
NOW IN THESE STEPS I'M ASSUMING YOU KNOW HOW TO USE/UPLOAD BRUSHES SO GO AHEAD AND LOAD THIS GRID BRUSH
on the new blank layer click once using your grid brush (make sure the color ur sing is black) then set that layer mode to Overlay...it's getting better but it needs more colors
create a new layer on top of the grid layer and set it to color burn then using a soft brush tool (set to about 45 px) pick different colors and draw on the layer. this is a matter of preference so go ahead and just put whatever colors you see look good wherever you like
on top of this layer add the final stock pic and set it to screen 96% then motion blur it with settings angle 90 distance 102
create another blank layer on top of this then use a nice brush to add some cute/cool effects. if you don't have any brushes (or don't know how to use them yet) don't create a new layer but do the following instead: using the text tool and a nice font add a quote or a song or whatever you'd like (make sure your text is black)
then overlay the layer with the text (or if you used some nice cute brushes in black overlay that layer)
I also added here a new blabk layer and used a brush that has sparkles to create the sparkles
pick another prettier font then write her name in bigger letters (don't worry about the color of this text yet) then go down to the f looking button (the one to add a layer style) and click on stroke with the color set to white and the size to 2, then click color overlay and pick a nice color that goes well with your pic for the font color, and finally click on the drop shadow and leave the settings as they are
and that's it lol...you have a final graphic
this is of course very crappy but as I said I was in a hurry but you get the idea...I use brushes a lot and only use stock pics very rarely usually just when I need to craete a background but if you're just beggining and only want to do small stuff like banners and siggies then I think using stock pics is easier than using brushes
here is the end result and notice I didn't crop the unwanted stuff so you can see the difference
http://img247.echo.cx/img247/8693/tut9mv.jpg
and here is what my final Layer Palette looks like with all my layers
http://img247.echo.cx/img247/8241/palette3wv.jpg

ANIMATIONS
capturing the frames
1.we will be working with this free program Virtual Dub so download here: http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/ and install it
2.open the program, click in File and open the video you want to animate
3.with your mouse move the slider to the beggining of the scene you want to use for your animation
http://img27.echo.cx/img27/1936/tut15hk.jpg
4.click on {what I call lol} the beggining set tab to indicate what frame to start capturing
5.now move the slider up to the last frame you want to capture and click the end set tab. I don't recommend trying to cap too many frames otherwise the file will be way too big
6.go to File and select "save image sequence". you will get a window that looks like this:
http://img123.echo.cx/img123/9080/tut21dn.jpg
7.click on the button to indicate the location where you want to save the image sequence (I suggest creating a folder just for this)
8.now your frames are saved and you can use them to create your animations
creating the animations - a full tutorial
1.in Image Ready under File click Import and then Folder As Frames. this will load all your screen caps as one animation
2.I suggest resizing and cropping your image since most screen caps have a lot of space you don't need
3.to resize just go to Image and the Image Size and to crop simply use the rectangular marquee tool to select what you want and then click Crop under Image
4.most caps are dark and low quality but fixing each frame would be too much work so we will use Photoshop to fix these problems all at once
5.export your file to Photoshop from Image Ready by using the "Jump to Photoshop" button at the bottom of your toolbar
6.in Photoshop select the topmost frame so all the new layers we create will be on top
7.go to Layers and select New Adjustment Layer then select Brightness/Contrast
8.hit ok WITHOUT selecting "Group with Previous Layers" since we want this to affect all the layers
9.move both sliders until you are happy with the results
10.repeat creating the New Adjustment Layers but try the Curves, the Levels and the other choices until you fix the image to your liking (experiment)
11.since you're already in Photoshop add your brushes and text always remembering to create each new layer on top of all the frames
12.when you have the look you want jump the image back to Image Ready
13.click all the new layers you created in Photoshop one by one and select the Unify buttons to make sure that each frame has the new layers all in the same style and position
http://img201.echo.cx/img201/1021/tut31vy.jpg
14.since the image has too many frames and you really don't need them all in the Animation bar select every other frame by holding down the CTRL button in your keyboard and using the mouse to clicking every other frame
http://img201.echo.cx/img201/1179/tut40iz.jpg
15.delete all the selected frames by clicking the "trash" icon in the Animation bar as indicated above
16.play your animation and if it's still too slow delete every other frame again. do this until you are happy with the speed and size of your animation
17.if you don't already have the Optimize toolbar up get it by going to Windows and then clicking Optimize
18.make sure the image type is GIF and not JPEG or anything else since animations have to be gifs
19.under File save your final animation by clicking "Save Optimized As" and I also suggest in the beggining to save the original document in psd format in case you need to fix something later on (this happens when you're first starting out lol)

the topmost box should say JPEG and the Quality should be set to 70.
the lower 2 boxes should be unchecked and the Blur set to 0
*if you are saving transparent gifs then the settings should be as follow:
down the left:
GIF
Perceptual
No Dither
and check the Transparency box

http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/6526/112446b1uy.jpg
1.open a new document size 450 X 200 and place ur piccies there.
2.just like in the other tutorial create a layer mask on your topmost layer.
3.using a soft round brush set to black and making sure ur on the layer mask erase away all the stuf you don't want from the topmost layer. in other words, blend your image.
4.when you are satisfied with the look flatten your image.
5.create another blank layer on top. fill it with #1A8369 then set it to color burn opacity 72%, fill 50%
6.create another layer with # then set it to soft light 62%.
7.make a copy of the blended layer and set it as the top layer. then go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. set that layer to soft light
here is the end resuly of the base compared to the original.
original
http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/1281/10vf.jpg
base
http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/8822/24bb.jpg
now you have your base. the next steps are to use brushes and stock images to make your sigg pretty. there is no right or wrong way to do this so just experiment and see what works with your idea and ur images
tips:
if you are using a grid make sure it's small. in other words don't use grids with too big a square or scan lines that are too fat or spread out. grids should be small and close to each other so the effect doesn't look too out of plce
also play with your layers. try color burn, overlay, soft light, and screen to get the best effects and try different colors.

creating fanart - a complete tutorial
ok I feel guilty neglecting this topic and since nobody else wants to write out tuts I figure I do one. this is a complete tutorial (but you MUST know the basics) so u'll learn how to do almost everything that there is to do in creating any sort of fanart (sigs, avs, walls, etc). you can use this for ANYTHING. this took a long @ss time to write so don't even think about stealing it and claiming it as ur own or the ENTIRE Clown Colege will be after ur sorry arse http://www.spiteface.com/laugh.gif
getting ready (MUST READ)
one of the questions I get the most is how did u do this or that effect. the answer 99.9% of the time is brushes and stock pictures. the specific brushes and stock pics you use help or break ur creation so if u don't use the sames I use here u may get TOTALLY different results. also brushes and stock pics don't necessarily work well on every pic so if u use different pics again u may get a different result. these are just guidelines and tricks and as u work along you'll get the feel for what to use where.
the pics we will be using:

the brushes and patterns:
feathers courtesy of Void Brushes: http://www.itsuji.net/brushes/index.php?y=...p;x=setlist.php (http://www.itsuji.net/brushes/index.php?y=14feathers.php&x=setlist.php)
stars courtesy of Aethereality: http://www.aethereality.net/brushes.php?mo...x=&screen=1 (http://www.aethereality.net/brushes.php?mode=&x=&screen=1)
my patterns: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=42HZQGYX
let's begin...
1.create a new doc size 717X231. fill ur bottom layer with black. import the 3 ladies pics into this document. resize the pics so they look more or less like this:
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/6446/17td.jpg
2.next we blend. on the Sush layer create a new layer mask. then use a soft round brush (100px set to black) to paint away the stuff we don't want to show. this is what I ended up with. notice my layer mask on the layer pallete.
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7587/27lq.jpg
3.now we fix the colors. click the Sush layer (on the layer palette make sure u've selected the pic and not the layer mas) then Image > Adjustements > Color Balance. click on Shadows then set it to -59, -31, -14. then click Highlights and set to -9, +3, +46
4.still too freakishly yellow so duplicate the layer then go to Image > Adjustements > Desaturate. then set the layer to Saturation and the opacity to 27%. merge the two layers together
5.now move to Nandita. duplicate the layer and set to Overlay. merge the two. go to Image > Adjustments > Color Balance. set the shadow to -45, -13, -13. the highlight to -3, +19, +48.
6.now on to Vydia. go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. set the brightness to +8.
7.now select each layer and on each one go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen. tere is where we stand so far.
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/2184/34fm.jpg
8.merge all the ladies pics together. then create a new blank layer on top. fill it with #050D41 then set the layer to Exclusion.
9.create a copy of the main layer (the one with the ladies), set it on top of the filled layer. then go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. set the layer to Soft Light. then create a layer mask on it and using a soft round brush set to black blend away everything but the ladies faces.
10.okies now make another duplicate of ur bottom main layer but leave it just over the main on (in other words don't put it at the top). then set it to Soft Light. then MAKING SURE that ur color palette has white as the background color go to Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow. set to 0, 10, 15.
11.click on your bottom layer now then Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur set to 2.4 and u should be here:
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/1438/44rm.jpg
12.still on this bottom layer select the sharpen tool (this is together with the blur tool on the tools palette. the blur tool looks like a drop, the sharp looks like a long triangle), make sure it's set to soft brush size 1 px ans SLOWLY sharpen the eyes of the ladies. do it slowly and check ur progress or otherwise uend up with what's known as "zombie eyes" which is when the eyes are waaaay to sharp lol. repeat this for the lips and their jewelry
13.open up the first stock pic above and place it UNDER the filled blue layer. then Filter > Blur > Motion Blur then set it Angle -39, Distance 46px. then place it more or less around where I did here:
http://img314.imageshack.us/img314/9572/58ud.jpg
14.now insert the second stock pic under the last one. move it to the top right corner and resize it so it fits like I did in the example below. then using a layer mask blend it into our collage. set it to screen.
15.create a new blank layer under the above stock. load the stars brushes and sprinkle some stars all over using white. use the eraser set to soft brush and erase the stars that may be all over the ladies faces and such. use ur judgment as to what to erase.
16.create a new layer on top of the stars layer. load the romantic swirls brushes and using white add brushes on opposite corners. then press CTRL + A to select everything. in the same layer go to Edit > Stroke. make sure the color is white and set a 2px stroke. press CTRL + D to deselect. set the layer Fill to 83%.
17.select a pretty cursive font, choose black and then just write or copy paste a poem, a song lyric, or whatever. this won't show much so don't pay too much attention to what you write. it's mostly just texture. right-click on the layer and choose "Rasterize" then set the layer to Overlay. use a soft round bush to erase away any parts covering the faces. again use ur own judgment about what looks good to you.
18.click on the bottom main layer. then go to Layers > New Fill Layer > Pattern and click ok. now u get another window pop-up. right next to the square pattern there's a small arrow. click on that, you then get a selection of all ur patterns. we need to change them so click on the little arrow to the righ of all the patterns. go down to Replace Patterns then load the ones u downloaded before we started. set the size to 50% and then click ok. set the layer to Soft Light and 43%. then once again use a small round brush to erase the pattern covering the faces.
19.add another blank layer on top of the last one. load your feather brushes then using white paint the feathers all over. set the layer to Soft Light then using the same technique as before erase all the feathers on their faces. remember to always use a round brush set to 100px cuz that's neither too big nor too small and also go easy on the erasing. if you do it all at once you may end up erasing too much.
20.duplicate the feathers layer. make sure it's also set to soft light.
21.now using a nice font write ur title. for the "bollywood" I used the fonts Scriptina in black then set it to Screen. then I clicked on the Add A Layer Style (the F looking button on the layers palette) and I added a dark Stroke and Outer Glow. for the "Divas" I used the font Perpetua in white and set it to Soft Light. since it was too light I duplicated the layer twice. then I added Outer Glow to the bottom of the three.
this is the end result with all my layers:
http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/1745/70wh.jpg
and here is the finished fanart ready to use. :-D

okies the basic basic basic tutorial
I.how to create a new document:
1.go to File > New then specify ur size but leave the resolution to 72px (change it to this if it's different) then click ok.
II. how to add new layers
1.make sure ur Layers palette is up. simply go to Window (it's to the right of Filter and View)> then look down and make sure that there's a check mark next to Layers. here is what ur Layers palette looks like:
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/7931/18kw.jpg
add layer style is where u click to add strokes, drop shadows, outer glow, etc to a layer
add layer mask is for adding the mask so u can blend
add a new layer and delete layer are self exlanatory lol
III.very basic how to blend
1.create a mask on the layer u want to blend by clicking the "add layer mask". u will notice that on the layers palette a white box shows up next to ur pic.
2.make sure that ur mask is selected and not the pic otherwise instead of painting the mask u will paint ur pic. to make sure there shoul be a rectangle around the mask and not the pic. look at the difference below:
around mask (correct way)
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6364/21zi.jpg
around pic (wrong way)
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/577/39dr.jpg
3.now pic a soft round brush. the size should be either 45px or 100px. if ur working with a wallpaper go for a bigger one. here's where ur round brushes are at:
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/3966/48cb.jpg
4.now all u do is use the round brush to brush away all the stuff u don't want to show. since ur brushing on the layer mask the pic will be "erasing" and ths will blend with whatever is under it. if u "erased" too much simply switch from black o white and brush back whatever u need.
http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/6286/51on.jpg
IV.the tools palette
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7505/63fy.jpg
u will notice that almot all the tools have a little black triangle on the bottom right. that's because if u press this u will fin more tools. some that u may use often are as follows:
1.under the rectangular marquee - the elliptical and single rows marquee
2.under the blur - the sharpen and smudge tools
3.under the paintbucket - the gradient tool
4.under the brush - the pencil tool
hope that helps and feel free to ask any questions! :-D

Ok so i tried making my first tutorial, i pretty much love this effect so i wanted to share the technique, it's pretty simple.. ^_^
I made it in Adobe Photoshop CS
1. First of all choose a picture to use, i chose this (http://media.glamsham.com/download/picturegallery/events/klsh_song/klsh_song_03.jpg) picture of kareena kapoor, since she's looking very pretty..
2. Crop the picture to size 100x100 so now you have your base..
This is what i got:
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/8655/baseiw5.jpg
3. Duplicate your base and set the duplicated layer to screen at opacity 45% (note: the opacity can differ, when u have a light picture, keep the opacity low, when your picture is very dark keep the opacity high)
This is what i got:
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/8655/baseiw5.jpg
4. This is the most fun part, ooh how i love selective coloring hehe!! Basically it's just playing around with the settings..
Click on Layer->New Adjustment Layer->Selective Color
Use these settings:
Red:
Cyan: -100
Yellow: +100
Yellow:
Cyan: +80
Magenta: -10
Yellow: -70
Neutrals:
Cyan: +100
Magenta: +20
Yellow: -20
5. Flatten your image and you're done!! ( i duplicated the new base and set it to soft light with the opacity of 50%)
This is what i got:
http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/5539/base3id8.jpg
6. To decorate the icon, duplicate your new base and select the new layer, go to Filter->Blur->Radial Blur->Amount: 30, now take a smal soft brush size 65 and earase the parts which cover the face, don't delete everything just the part on the face so we keep this rounded kinda shape..add some text, textures and you're done!!Just play around with the settings ^_^
Result:

Tutorial #2-Photoshop Cs
http://i11.tinypic.com/52p1g6f.jpg
1. Choose any image you want to use, i chose a picture of Shilpa Shetty.
http://i11.tinypic.com/6cg6vko.jpg
2. If your image is too dark or dull just add a screen layer to lighten it up, the image i used is quite light so i left it like that.
3. Go to layer>>new fill layer>>solid color>>FFFFFF>>soft light opacity 50%
4. Now go to layer>>new adjustment layer>>selective color>>use these settings:
REDS
C:-100
M:0
Y:+100
B:0
YELLOWS
C:+10
M:0
Y:0

NEUTRALS

M:+30
Y:-10
B:-10
BLACKS

M:+100
Y:+20
B:+25
5. Now duplicate the selective color layer from step 4, this is what i got.
http://i14.tinypic.com/4tgfyid.jpg
(You can stop here, if you like the result, or continue with the next step)
6. To make the icon more colorful, i added a new layer filled with CBE1E8 and set it to colorburn 100%
http://i15.tinypic.com/4zuqbyx.jpg
Voila!
Tip: Just play around with the settings of the selective color layers and the solid color layers, you can also add a hue/saturation layer to add more color into you image ^_^

How to get a Shiny Glow
Start out with this Hilary Duff image.
http://www.aethereality.net/tutorials/psp/008/001.jpg
Layers -> Duplicate
Adjust -> Brightness and Contrast -> Threshold -> 128
Adjust -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur -> 5.0
Layers -> Properties -> Layer Mode -> Soft Light
http://www.aethereality.net/tutorials/psp/008/002.jpg
This is optional. After setting your layer mode to Soft Light, you can duplicate the image one more time and this what you get.

Adjust -> Hue and Saturation -> Automatic Saturation Enhancement
